High, high winds and icy, icy temps during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week don’t get the star of Bravo’s “It’s a Brad, Brad World” down.
That Brad, Brad, is Brad Goreski, Rachel Zoe’s former assistant, who parlayed a gig on her reality show into his own spin-off, which premiered last month on Bravo. He’s been living in Los Angeles for nine years, so you’d think this kinda East Coast cold would...Read more »
Now that Marc Jacobs, once perennially tardy, starts his shows at the appointed hour ON THE DOT, wise fans and fashionistas show up early. Luckily, he gives us lots to consider while we wait. His shows are generally the most elaborate and contemplative of the week, more like theatrical events, or performance art, than mere runway show. Monday night’s event at the Lexington Avenue Armory was no different.

Betsey Johnson’s runway show, entitled “Betseymania,” recalls those early days in the 1960s when Beatlemania was all the rage, and teenagers wept at the mere sight of the mop-topped four. Before any clothes hit the runway, in fact, Johnson played video footage of such weeping teens. Ohhh, but if there’s anything that could cheer those gals up, it’s Johnson’s clothes (and attitude), which remain...Read more »
There was only a little smoke filtering in from the rafters when the 3.1 Phillip Lim show got underway on Monday, at an event space near the High Line. “Stop the smoke,” a photographer called out, about halfway through. By the time it ended, the place was foggier than London.
But you could still spot the houndstooth—a jumbo, blown-up version, as if we were looking at the pattern through a...Read more »
At her Monday afternoon show, Donna Karan sent out a fearless, strong, sexy collection that was both a departure from her signature, yet in some ways, at the essence of it.
The show opened with a whippet slim series of tuxedo jackets – some pinstriped, some with tails – paired with trousers, or to-the-body pencil skirts, a tuxedo shirt (a body suit – a Donna classic), accessorized with spliced...Read more »
The back wall of Carolina Herrera’s runway was a mosaic of sketches and swatches from her fall collection that showed the designer’s range. There were chic indigo and black combos that could work day or night. These were luxed up with broadtail and sable trim – perfect for Herrera’s ladies --out in force.
But this season, Herrera ‘s appeal goes well beyond her core. Slim pants, skinny enough...Read more »
Leave it to Alice and Olivia designer Stacy Bendet to make a haunted house dinner party a fun time.
That was the inspiration for Bendet's Fall 2012 collection, but no one was too spooked to admire the show-stopping looks at her Fashion Week presentation Monday.
"It's just so fun, flirty and sexy," said "The Help" actress Ahna O'Reilly, dressed in a blush colored Alice...Read more »
Brit designer Jenny Packham’s blinged out frocks and gowns speak volumes. But the designer is mum about one subject: the Duchess of Cambridge. Yup, that would be Kate Middleton who’s worn Packham more than once, and whose sister, Pippa, and mother, Carole (she wore a Packham to the Royal Wedding) are big fans. And there are other big names – Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Keira Knightly among them –...Read more »
Compared to an ethereal Spring/Summer 2012 collection inspired by rainbows, Jenny Packham's gone dark for fall.
"The collection's inspired by the Femme Noir genre of movies," Packham told Newsday. "The leading lady is femme fatale-- dangerous, glamorous, unrepentive."
Packham, a red carpet staple who has dressed everyone from Kate Winslet to Kate Middleton,...Read more »
Okay—Skaist-Taylor, the hotly anticipated new line from those Juicy Couture gals, Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor…(hence the new name)…pulled off the best show of the season. Um…too soon to call? Maybe, given that we have Marc Jacobs’ show coming up tonight.
To be clear, they’re not winning a Best In Show trophy (prematurely like this) for clothes alone, but the overall vibe pulled...Read more »
