Cynthia Rowley--party on!

Cynthia Rowley’s spring presentation, in a stately hall at the High Line Hotel, had the look of a big, bawdy party—like a bunch of free spirits had taken over a university or monastery (the hotel was originally part of a seminary) to celebrate Mardi Gras or Carnival.

There were no Mardi Gras beads, actually, but the ticky-tacky decorations hanging from grand chandeliers had that look. (New...

Alexander Wang reveals (almost) all

The Alexander Wang Spring 2014 collection is modeled

If Alexander Wang designed hospital gowns, patients might not feel that squeamish about wearing them. And they’d be so much more luxurious.

At his spring fashion show on Saturday at the massive Pier 94, Wang choreographed one of his deconstructivist extravaganzas, with large white cages as far as the eye could see, and models coming…from everywhere, it seemed, walking in a complicated criss-cross...

Rebecca Taylor: Pretty gal meets cool guy

Flirty, feminine wardrobe staples had a tiny bit of a tomboy edge at Rebecca Taylor’s afternoon show downtown on Saturday. All in white and blush tones, there was lots of open lace and plenty of perforated leather  – this, deceptively innocent looking, but in fact, the cuts and holes allowed for a glimpse of some serious skin beneath.

Along with the girlie, there were quilted jackets,...

Prabal Gurung: Modern Marilyn Monroe in a plastic world

In the showmanship department, Prabal Gurung’s afternoon show at Manhattan’s main post office was, by far, the most dramatic of the week so far. Thirty-eight models filed out from backstage and marched into a rectangular box on the runway that was enclosed with plastic panels. They stood there, still, until, one by one, they emerged from the plastic, taking a runway walk and returning to their original...

Lacoste: Light ‘n’ Lively

Cages lined Lacoste’s runway (looking a lot like tennis ball hoppers) and models sauntered in well-constructed looks that were simultaneously substantial and airy. A polo tennis dress in pale blue featured a faux-cropped top. There was a slouchy, clay-colored robe-like coat and in the same shade, loose pants with pinstriping down the side -- lines, according to program notes (think tennis court),...

Kenneth Cole's street style

Kenneth Cole is lord of the Twitterverse. Outside his spring presentation Saturday he parked a big truck that blared, “Are you following me?” while inside he encouraged his models to spend time on their phones, tweeting and Instagramming with friends.

It’s all part of the overall look, swiped from the street, of sporty bombers trimmed with bright green snakeskin, scuba tops, leather moto jackets...

Cushnie et Ochs: Sizzling sex appeal

There’s no denying that Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs' focused collection show at Milk Studios on Friday afternoon exuded an aggressive sexuality — this for the woman who will break your heart and make you beg while she’s doing it. Enter Karlie Kloss, the show’s opener, strutting a white asymmetrical crepe bandage dress that fit better than a glove.

And so it went in mostly black and white...

Nicole Miller's 'coup-ture'

Nicole Miller is staging a style coup, of sorts, with a spring wardrobe fit for the well-dressed rebellista. “Rebels with a Cause,” she calls it — a collection that looks just as good strolling through Versailles…as storming it.

The designer, known for her cheeky prints, mentioned “the gardens of Versailles” and “storming the castle” in her program notes. This was her attempt, it seemed, to...

Jason Wu: Easy does it

Fashion from the Jason Wu Spring Summer 2014

(Credit: AP )

There were gigantic,  sculptural brass lamps on the runway; crazy good celebs in the house such as Maria Sharapova, Alicia Keyes, "Mad Men’s" Jessica Pare; and even big name models — Karen Elson and Karlie Kloss among them, but Jason Wu wasn’t getting whipped into a fancy frenzy — his show was all about ease and being relaxed.

Program notes called the collection “a dialogue...

Carmen Marc Valvo: Dive right in

The Carmen Marc Valvo spring 2014 collection is

(Credit: AP )

Ready to take the dive? Carmen Marc Valvo’s scuba-inspired collection was a new twist from this seasoned hand. Models in two-tone wigs set the stage for this predominantly black and white runway that exuded a bit of aggression and lots of pow.

Sexy, body con cocktail frocks — some pairing athletic mesh and black leather — were just shy of edgy. A couple of swimsuits — one a scuba-style maillot...
