Naeem Khan: Wow factor

The wow factor at Naeem Khan was, simply put, over the top. Expected here are blinged out dresses and gowns with an Indian flavor. Khan wardrobes celebs and is a favorite of Michelle Obama, who has donned his confections for state dinners.
So, in a novel twist, he put out … daywear … beautifully tailored separates and dresses, some with big palm frond graphics. Better even was the navy and...

Tory Burch says her muse is a stylish magpie who picks special pieces while traveling around the world and mixes them with classic sportswear.
In the first part of her show at Avery Fisher Hall, this translated to big, graphic wheat prints in mustard and brown backed by white shown on dresses, shorts and shirts. Somebody ate their Wheaties …even the models’ hair had wheat-stalk like hair extensions....

Backstage at the Badgley Mischka show held at the tents on Tuesday, Mark Badgley said, “We were inspired by the 1935 film version of ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream.’ It was black and white, and our colors are the way we thought it should be.”
Indeed, the dreamy runway and its soft palette of blush, ivory, lilac (one of the prettiest gowns we’ve seen this season turned out in this shade) conjured...

It was one heck of a party at the alice + olivia show, which was set up in vignettes at a downtown space Monday night. Designer Stacy Bendet (who herself regularly graces best-dressed lists) was inspired by the optimistic Fifties, and the clothes were happy, peppy and bursting with fun, as was the scene. The cocktails with orchids encased in giant ice cubes seemed to have loosened up the crowd.
Bendet...

Few things are certain in life, but this is probably a safe bet — the former band members of The White Stripes are going to love Marc Jacobs’ spring line.
Mr. #HottestTicketInTown might’ve saved himself a good deal of time and money, if he had the inclination to do so, by skipping the whole rigmarole of a runway show and instead just going to the mountaintop (be it the observation deck...

Hey, all you folks with English degrees out there — 3.1 Phillip Lim has a collection just for you … inspired by “cut-ups.” Um … for those of you who maybe missed class that day, “cut-up” is a literary technique dating back to those quirky Dadaists of the 1920s and popularized about 30 years later by author William S. Burroughs, who liked to take pages of text, cut ‘em up and rearrange them...

Venezuelan designer Angel Sanchez added some unexpected accessories when he unveiled his spring 2013 collection at Lincoln Center Monday.
Sanchez had fun with the elegant draping and crisp lines of his artfully feminine frocks by adding bright, metallic, three-dimensional geometric shapes as jewelry.
There was one hot pink cube earring with a white ruffled dress, and a lightning bolt...

A cityscape collided with nature on Donna Karan’s runway Monday, where the designer rolled two of her passions -- NYC and the beach -- into one stunning collection. Her inspiration was light – reflections off the glass and steel in the city, and the illumination of the sand, sky and water at the beach.
The models here, made up with red-rimmed eyes and donning sculpted Lucite headpieces, looked...

Pink-haired designer Chris Benz is known for his showstopping, eccentric creations, and Kelly Osbourne dressed for the occasion at his New York Fashion Week runway show Monday.
Osbourne wore a collared dress with a hot-pink skirt, mustard-yellow bodice and orange sleeves, and topped it off with yellow shades and a whimsical updo. With her was boyfriend Matthew Mosshart, who was sporting...

On a runway that resembled a roadway, Reem Acra sent out a series of day and evening looks that offered up a little something for everyone. The pieces varied wildly. It is unlikely, for example, that the lady who buys the navy tailored pantsuit would be caught dead in one of Acra’s nude illusion gowns … these with completely sheer panels running down both sides, from shoulder to floor (um, that...
