Inspiration: “Visions of billowing bonfires sweeping through the Scottish Highlands,” was the inspiration for Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig’s runway according to notes.

Designers have their niches. Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig own theirs: luxurious, ornate gowns for princess brides and red-carpet sirens.
Their show at New York Public Library, in a space with heavy drapery, gold chairs and plush white carpet, featured 27 gowns and dresses that were a feast for the eye and the imagination.

Marchesa journeyed to India in the most literal sense on a loooong runway set in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Station. Program notes explained that designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig drew inspiration from the spirit of India in the 1960s as captured by The Beatles’ experience with the Maharishi.

The gals at Marchesa – Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig – went to heaven for inspiration for their ethereal collection by way of an angelic painting entitled, “A Soul Brought to Heaven,” by William Adolphe Bouguereaus. A photograph of the work accompanied the program notes at their glamorous runway show at the Plaza Hotel Wednesday evening.
