Half the fun of attending a Marc Jacobs fashion show is deciphering what it all means. It’s never easy.

Just walking into his Fall 2013 show at the Lexington Avenue Armory Thursday night — the final show of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week — begged the question: Why is that giant, blinding circle of light hanging in the middle of the armory, and making everyone look jaundiced? A “Land of the Midnight...

Marc by Marc Jacobs: Oh, those sophisticated '70s

The Marc by Marc Jacobs line, especially popular with the older teen and 20-something demo, is often chock-full of campus-ready gear and preppy-with-a-twist collegiate looks.  For fall, the pendulum seems to be swinging in the opposite direction, with a line that seems focused on an après school wardrobe. Yikes -- these gals have had to get jobs, so they’re going to need more than that one...

Marc by Marc Jacobs: Mix and match, and mix again

One of the creations from the spring 2013

Ahhh, Marc, Marc, Marc -- he can be clever, and his Marc by Marc Jacobs show required a little bit of careful reading. The collection is an exuberant study in mix-and-match, and mix again, and the retro vibe will have you searching for ‘80s music on iTunes. There’s a definite homage to that over-the-top decade going on here, from a man who knows his historical periods.  And pop culture.

Few things are certain in life, but this is probably a safe bet — the former band members of The White Stripes are going to love Marc Jacobs’ spring line.

Mr. #HottestTicketInTown might’ve saved himself a good deal of time and money, if he had the inclination to do so, by skipping the whole rigmarole of a runway show and instead just going to the mountaintop (be it the observation deck...

In some ways, this season’s Marc by Marc Jacobs line—shown Tuesday afternoon at the New York State Armory—is a younger, fledgling version of the Marc Jacobs collection revealed Monday night.

There are voluminous dresses that puff out from empire waists, similar to the exaggerated hip silhouette in the higher-end line. And there’s a touch of sparkle, courtesy of Lurex sweaters and lamé separates.

But...

Marc Jacobs asks the 'Oliver!' lament: 'Who will buy?'

Now that Marc Jacobs, once perennially tardy, starts his shows at the appointed hour ON THE DOT, wise fans and fashionistas show up early. Luckily, he gives us lots to consider while we wait. His shows are generally the most elaborate and contemplative of the week, more like theatrical events, or performance art, than mere runway show. Monday night’s event at the Lexington Avenue Armory was no different.

Fash Wk faves: Vera, Carmen, Marc, Lypsinka

Lypsinka performs in the windows of Bergdorf Goodman

From the "MY FAVE THINGS" category or "WHO'S THE TOPLESS WOMAN OUTSIDE BERGDORF GOODMAN?"

People keep asking me the most memorable moments from Fashion Week. So here goes, in no particular order:

Vera Wang's fashion show--Inspired by Alice in Wonderland. White, light, ethereal, with these funky tie-on peplums in bright psychedelic patterns. They floated...

Marc Jacobs' recycled chic: plastic, tinsel, cellophane

Tropical Storm Irene may have spared New York City at the last minute, but Marc Jacobs was left scrambling. His design and sample room staffs were unable to work the weekend Irene hit town, forcing the designer — who usually shows on Monday evenings at the Lexington Avenue Armory — to postpone his show until Thursday, the closing night of Fashion Week. Given the unusual fabrics and finishes he...
