It’s the little things that grab your attention at a Narciso Rodriguez show. A diagonal seam. A sliver of skin. The lack of a lapel.

Narciso Rodriguez is a slasher extraordinaire—known for outfitting celebs like Julianna Margulies and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss in sleek, figure-hugging numbers with sexy, slashed cutouts. For fall, he loosens the silhouette, and offers no flashes of skin, but keeps things exciting with unexpected, diagonal color-blocking and slashed, angled hemlines.

Narciso Rodriguez woke everybody up. It’s a little-known fact of Fashion Week that, like running a marathon, there comes a point when you hit the wall. Dress after dress after dress, bony model after bony model, ruffles and pleats and impossibly high heels. After a while, it’s hard to remember which designer showed what — or if you even liked whatever it was they showed.

The Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2012 collection seems to be one of extremes—pieces are either sleek, smooth and almost inflated with air, or slashed, slit and jagged-edged, revealing warm pops of color (russet, Bordeaux, tangerine).
