Inspiration: Presented downtown on Thursday morning, Ralph Lauren explained his collection as, “an exotic kind of luxury, the spirit of a romantic safari emboldened by luminous colors played against the heritage of pure khakis in sleek and modern shapes.”

Ralph Lauren may not walk on water, but he came pretty close Monday night.
The designer presented his new Polo line for women in an elaborate video projected on a five-story wall of water that shot up from the Lake in Central Park.
The models in the film -- and Lauren, who takes a bow at the end -- look like holograms and appeared to walk on water.

The inspiration: It wasn’t so much inspiration as news that fueled Ralph Lauren’s runway show. Make that shows, plural, as in two back-to-back, one of his luxe line (Ralph Lauren Collection), and the other his first-ever Polo diffusion line for women.
The vibe: Exciting, given that there's a whole new Ralph line and vision to check out. Debuts like that don’t come around very often.

Berets, bolero hats, hand-tooled belts and serapes were the accoutrements to Ralph Lauren’s stunning show at the downtown Skylight Studio Thursday morning.
Accessories come first, because they really established the vibe here: an artsy Bohemian spirit with a Spanish flair. It was luxe, textural and powerful, conjuring a woman with a sense of adventure and style.
