Nobody does romance like Zac Posen -- it’s part of the brand’s DNA, and perhaps what keeps his customers coming back, checking him out, despite a few bumpy seasons when the economy tumbled and we feared maybe he had, too. But the former infant terrible seemed to show a mature, refined side with this spring collection of pale florals, bias-cut satin gowns and sculpted, ruffled skirts.

For all the chatter about Zac Posen having once been the “enfant terrible” of fashion -- ohhh, his meteoric rise and, alas, mystifying fall (hey, the economy hit a lot of designers hard) -- Posen in many ways has a strong, traditionalist streak. The crowd was getting antsy sitting alfresco on the terrace of Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center Sunday night as Zac Posen was running late, almost by 40 minutes. But then, hit the music (Etta James, singing the 1940s song “A Sunday Kind of Love”) and — BOOM — in saunters Naomi Campbell wearing a vintage-y hibiscus print silk twill and chiffon frock.

There are some seriously “OMG” moments at fashion week, but if you’re the betting type, put your money on Zac Posen to deliver them every time. Here, body contoured (hey, one was called "anatomic") suits and cocktail dresses simmered, ball gowns truly stunned.
