Desigual models boogie, wave and smooch
Desigual’s debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was a riotous jolt of color, pattern and in-your-face sass. The mass market brand is a far cry from couture, sure, but the show was a potent reminder of what fashion is ultimately about (or perhaps should be) for most shoppers -- fun.
Models boogied their way down the runway, waving and throwing smooches to the audience. And some of the models smooched each other, as the gals and guys (yeah, there was some menswear tossed in with the women’s gear) got frisky with each other as the music blared. For women, the look was an electrified mix of abstract prints. Like that polka-dot coat, the sexy-stately jacquard short shorts, scribbly-print minis and more, some worn with big floppy hats and massive totes.
Your run-don’t-walk must-have from this collection has got to be that cute short raincoat, cinched at the waist, with the Barcelona skyline sketched at the bottom.
The Spanish brand has a simple motto: “La vida es chula.” That’s “Life is cool,” for those who can’t recall their high school Spanish. Hard to argue with that. And a little cavorting on the runway? Perfecto for Day One of Fashion Week. (Any day, really.)
