Mixed prints and ladylike menswear at Whitney Eve

TV personality-turned-designer Whitney Port showed her Whitney Eve spring 2013 collection Wednesday during New York Fashion Week, said to be inspired by crown jewels.

The collection featured stone-like prints and shades of blue, green, pink and brown. Port found what she liked and stuck with it, mixing and matching three major prints and color schemes throughout the show with little variety otherwise.

There were pleated dresses, high-waisted skirts, cigarette pants and sleeveless blazers for a light, feminine take on the menswear trend. Chunky knits layered over long blouses and printed pants and dresses with panels of fringe added texture and varied silhouettes, though, overall, it could have been more fun and young for spring.

Former "Real Housewives of New York City" star Kelly Killoren Bensimon and "NYPD Blue" actress Charlotte Ross sat front row wearing the same print on two different Whitney Eve dresses. Bensimon paired her ruffled version with silver glitter stilettos, and Ross went with a long-sleeve, straight cut with dark purple platforms.

"It went off just as I had hoped it would," Port wrote on her website after the show. "Every runway show we produce is more of a rush than the last."
