The classic lines of the Hammerstein Ballroom, with its painted ceiling and curved balconies, provided a stark contrast to this ultra-mod show, complete with video screen backdrop and circuitous runway.

There was women's wear and menswear, each with a somewhat European edge. For ladies, it was all about the coats: a classic toggle coat came in bright yellow; a riff on a military band jacket looked cool with tails and (again) yellow trim. Some outerwear was huge, one parka the size of a Volkswagen, another coat with patch pockets in back, which begged the question:
