Samuel Adams and Magic Hat are getting ready for the unofficial start of summer with brews to celebrate.
Samuel Adams Summer Ale is a refreshing American wheat beer. It's made with lemon peel and a brewing spice called "grains of paradise," an African pepper that gives the crisp ale a distinctive note. About $8 for a six-pack.
You'll also find Samuel Adams Double Bock, a fine, transitional brew, from cool to warm weather. The hue is dark amber, and there are hints of caramel and spice. The toasty production has balance and body. Four-pack, about $10.
And the Bavarian-style Samuel Adams Latitude 58 delivers a lively, slightly earthy brew, with suggestions of citrus and easygoing bitterness. Balanced, appealing, made with Hallertau Mittelfrueh noble hops. Six-pack, about $9.
Magic Hat's enjoyable contributions include Single Chair Ale and Blind Faith. Single Chair is a gilded and satisfying pilsner, harmonious and spirited. And the label, as always, is fun. It's part of the brewer's "summer scene" 12-pack, which sells for $14 to $17.
Blind Faith is a member of the 12-pack, too. This one is part of Magic's Hat's IPA on Tour series, and is appropriately hopped up. Besides, there's the nostalgic, British rock name. Toast Clapton, Baker, Winwood and Grech. In a six-pack, Blind Faith is $7 to $8.
