Yes, Mom, this toast is for you.

You can celebrate your mother with a good meal, either at home or in a restaurant. But she may enjoy a beverage, too.

To keep with a floral theme, consider rosés, locally grown.

Fine choices: the dry, very satisfying 2011 Wölffer Estate Rosé ($16), mostly merlot, floral and refreshing, from Sagaponack; 2011 Bedell Cellars Taste Rosé ($18), also primarily merlot, crisp and lively, from Cutchogue; 2011 Bouquet Rosé ($16), formerly Bouké, an off-dry option with a hint of watermelon, from Mattituck; and any of the fruity, appealing rosés from local specialist Croteaux Vineyards of Southold, priced $19 to $30.

Veering white and Californian: the peachy, floral. easygoing 2010 Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Riesling ($13); and the vivid 2010 Clos Pegase Mitsuko's Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc ($20), which has plenty of citrus and tropical fruit.

Specifically seeking chardonnay: the 2010 MacRostie Sonoma Coast Chardonnay ($25), creamy and smooth, with some toastiness from oak; the 2010 Napa Cellars Mount Veeder Chardonnay ($30), an appley winner with traces of pear and tropical fruit; the 2009 Smith-Madrone Chardonnay ($35), light, citrusy, with an aroma of green apple; and the delightful 2009 Gary Farrell Russian River Valley Chardonnay ($32), a bright, spirited white wine.

And going big red: the ripe, balanced 2008 Benziger Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon ($20); full, concentrated 2009 Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon ($40), heady with cassis, capped with a vanilla note.
