A basement playroom with a Legos theme
Building a room around a homeowner’s collection can be challenging. Building a room around a 7-year-old’s collection could lead a designer to pull out her hair. Instead, designer Sherry Gossett of Sherry Ann Interior Designs of Bellmore chose to see things from a child’s perspective as she created a room that satisfied her young clients’ taste while not offending the sensibilities of parents Zoya, 36, and Roman Maiberg, 50, both of whom work in the medical field. Bernard, 7, is crazy for Legos. The room in the Roslyn home also had to accommodate Lance, 4, whose aversion to Legos is almost as strong as Bernard’s love of them. “We needed an interesting way to display the Legos, but a display that could also be used as they grew older,” says Gossett. “Later you can put books in them or display other things.” TOTAL: About $10,000 (Includes $1,300 design fee from Gossett) — SYLVIA E.
