A living room makeover inspired by the sea

After years of what she describes as walls painted “medicinal white,” Melville homeowner Lisa Russo was thirsting for some color in her living room. Plus, the room didn’t really reflect their family’s needs: She and her husband Anthony, an attorney, hung out in the room, but daughters, Taylor, 16, and Jordan, 14, gravitated to the den and its TV. Russo, a part-time accountant, wanted a beach-resort feel to the space, and she didn’t want to move the family’s piano. She turned to designer Nina Bock of Plainview's Ethereal Designs and Interiors to add color and elegance. Bock says she used a Caribbean hotel lobby as an inspiration, and she worked to tie the living room, dining room and entry together. Total: About $38,500 for the living room, $7,000 for the dining room and entry. --SYLVIA E. KING-COHEN
