A 'man cave' makeover everyone loves

Attorney Donna Friedman had no problem turning the den in her Roslyn home into a man cave for her husband, Gary, also an attorney, and their two sons. “After all, I had the whole rest of the house,” Donna says of the decidedly masculine look of the room. It has oversized furniture, places to display sports memorabilia and trophies, and “the largest television my husband could find” — 65 inches, to be exact.

To make sure the man cave had flair, Friedman reached out to designer Bonnie Frankl of Bonnie Frankl Interior Designs in Lake Success. Frankl had done other rooms in the house, and Donna Friedman says she was confident she could create exactly the room her guys wanted.

“Some people might have encouraged me not to use a sectional or to have such a large entertainment center,” says Friedman, 49, of the room that caters to the tastes of her 51-year-old husband and sons, ages 14 and 11. “But, I wanted a room that would make them happy, and Bonnie understood that.”Total: About $28,000 (Includes Frankl’s $750 design fee; does not include $4,000 prior TV purchase). -- Sylvia E.
