A red-and-green makeover for year-round gathering

Donna Lauria says she loves entertaining in the Massapequa home she shares with husband Thomas, 47, and their two children. But space was tight. “We really needed a family room that could work for all of us,” says Lauria, 47, of the decision to build an addition onto their house.

When it came time to decorate, she turned to designer Maureen DelPezzo of Be Still Design of Massapequa. Very big into Christmas -- including the colors red, green and gold -- Lauria wanted DelPezzo to incorporate some of her holiday decorations into the design of the 20-by-20-foot space. “It makes me happy to sit in here,” says Lauria, who adds that they now have room for big family gatherings.
