Bathroom makeover: from tired to modern

The bathroom in Mitchell and Jane Weisbrots Merrick home had taken a beating with their three sons sharing it.The bathroom was old and decrepit, Jane Weisbrot says of the 1965 house where Mitchell, a financial planner for families with special-needs children, grew up. There were holes rusted in the sinks, the towel rack fell off the wall and the bathtub drain was broken. A stay-at-home mother of 14-year-old twins Scott and Brett, and 11-year-old Eric, Weisbrot says she was determined to create the modern space of her dreams, including having square sinks. I worked hard to find just the right things, says Weisbrot, whose color palette was white, bronze and brown. Because it is a smallish bathroom, she says she wanted to add punch to every aspect of the room. Total: About $16,600. -- Sylvia E. King-Cohen
