Bathroom makeover: from tired to modern

The bathroom in Mitchell and Jane Weisbrot's Merrick home had taken a beating with their three sons sharing it."The bathroom was old and decrepit," Jane Weisbrot says of the 1965 house where Mitchell, a financial planner for families with special-needs children, grew up. "There were holes rusted in the sinks, the towel rack fell off the wall and the bathtub drain was broken." A stay-at-home mother of 14-year-old twins Scott and Brett, and 11-year-old Eric, Weisbrot says she was determined to create the modern space of her dreams, including having square sinks. "I worked hard to find just the right things," says Weisbrot, whose color palette was white, bronze and brown. Because it is a smallish bathroom, she says she wanted to add punch to every aspect of the room. Total: About $16,600. -- Sylvia E. King-Cohen
