Malverne's Groundhog Day canceled!
It sounds like a bad joke, but the weather has been so bad on Long Island this winter that even our groundhog is scared!
Malvern Mel, Nassau County's own spring-predicting groundhog, won't be doing his thing Wednesday morning because of the weather, leaving us to decide for ourselves whether spring will arrive in six weeks -- or not. Malverne Mayor Patricia Ann Norris-McDonald cited the possibility of dangerous, icy road conditions when she called off the festivities.
In Suffolk, though, Holtsville Hal, ever the trooper, is still set to make his prediction Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the Town of Brookhaven Ecology Site, Park & Animal Preserve.
