BEFORE. Carol Tvelia was inspired to remodel the sitting room in her East Patchogue home by a dislike for the room's tall brick fireplace. She had bookcases installed on either side, along with a new fireplace surround and mantel, molding and faux paneling throughout the room.
Inspired by a fireplace in Patchogue
Carol Tvelia of Patchogue never liked the tall brick fireplace in her sitting room. One day she saw a room in a catalog, and she knew that was exactly the room she wanted for a makeover. “When we bought the house the fireplace only had a bookcase on one side,” says Tvelia, 62, a principal in Rocky Point. Here’s how she created a warm, inviting room that is where she spends each Sunday reading the newspaper, drinking coffee and entertaining guests. TOTAL: About $20,000
