A stock trader's traditional new office

Steve Niemis, a stock trader, spends many hours each day working at home, so when he moved into his new six-bedroom home in Muttontown, one of the first rooms he had decorated was his home office. Niemis, 34, turned to Donna Avedon of Donna Avedon Designs of Locust Valley and Manhattan for expert advice. The two agreed immediately that he should have an office that was traditional in style. But he wanted to get the job done quickly, and he wanted to save money by buying through the Internet. Most of the furniture arrived within three weeks, and the price included delivery and set up. Now, he can comfortably has other traders over during the day. And, as important, he feels at home in the house he shares with his dog, 14-year-old Amber. TOTAL: About $27,000 (Includes $4,250 designer fee. Avedon said the homeowner saved about $20,000 by buying furniture on the Internet.) — SYLVIA E. KING-COHEN
