After last weekend's nor'easter fiasco, it's refreshing to see that the forecast for Saturday is entirely different: 61 degrees and sunny. Rain is predicted for Sunday, so get out there, enjoy the sunshine and fix up the garden while you can.

Naturally, the first thing you need to do is clean up any fallen branches and debris from last week's storm. Then you can think about enriching the vegetable patch by tilling in lime, fertilizer and generous amount of compost. Cover it up with plastic sheet mulch to warm the soil and get it ready for planting in May.

If you need to move shrubs, now is the time, while they're still dormant. Just don't fertilize them yet. New trees and shrubs can be planted, too.

And don't forget to plant some pansies, and send me pictures of your first spring blooms.
