Room makeover: from storage to a billiards room
When Robert and Lucy Anzelone say they wanted to enhance the entertaining options in their home in the Salisbury area of Westbury, they didn't go shopping for accent pillows or comfy chairs. They chose to turn a storage room into a poolroom with a bar and stone accent wall. Robert Anzelone, 48, a salesman, did the design work, and he turned to his father, a retired contractor and electrician, for help and pointers. "We didn't want another place for guests to sit and just watch television," Anzelone says. "We wanted a room that would be bold, that would make a statement." Total: About $13,000 (Anzelone estimates he saved $15,000-$20,000 by doing the work himself.) -- Sylvia E. King-Cohen
