Where Tinker Bell and Ariel would feel at home

When designer Meredith Weiss and her attorney husband, Seth Weiss, added a master suite to their Commack home, they gave their old room to their 5-year-old daughter. Weiss, owner of Merri Interors Inc., chose to make her daughter a client. “I really wanted to make it bright and girlie for her,” Weiss said. Although her daughter’s favorite colors were pink and purple, Weiss said, “As a designer, I just didn’t want to make a pink or purple room.” Her daughter’s favorite characters are Tinker Bell and the mermaid Ariel. “I thought about which colors they had in common and took inspiration from there.” Total: $3,064 (Weiss, who usually charges $75 to $100 per hour, says her fee for creating this room would be $2,000 to $3,500.) — SYLVIA E.
