'Back to school:' Words of joy, or words of pain?

BY VICTORIA CIRESI AND STACIE ZUCKER

KIDSDAY REPORTERS, AGES 9, KINGS PARK

Are you happy about going back to school?

Some kids like school but others do not. We asked 126 kids, ages 9 and 10,

if they like school. The results were almost even: 64 kids said yes, and 62

said no.

We like school. One reason is that we can make new friends there.

We also think it's fun to do school projects and we like learning new

things. Competing in school sports can be fun, too.

We talked to kids who are not glad that their summer vacation will soon end.

Some said the reason they don't like school is because they don't like

homework.

Some said they don't like sitting through boring school lessons. And some

said the schoolwork is too difficult.

School can be a little challenging, but we don't think it's a waste of time.

If kids don't go to school, they probably will have a difficult time

getting a job when they grow up.
