One of four Butera's located on the Island, this Italian restaurant puts an American lean on the aforementioned nation's cuisine. The salads come various toppings set mostly over mixed greens, while the pastas stay closer to classic preparation, placing either rigatoni, linguine or penne over sauce. Entrées of chicken and veal are served a la Parmesan and Piccata, while steaks and seafood get grilled and sautéed in dishes that lean toward dressings of artichoke, tomato and mushroom.
Although all four Butera's Italian restaurants offer the same kids menu, only Smithtown features a "kids eat free" night Monday and Tuesday. Youngsters are supplied with crayons and coloring material. Menu options include pasta with marinara sauce or butter, focaccia pizza, cheese ravioli, chicken fingeres with fries as well as fries covered with melted mozzarella. ($3.95 to $6.95)Hours: 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday; 1 p.m.-11 p.m. Saturday; 4 p.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. Credit cards: Accepted
Two items from the enticing new bar menu at Butera’s came up as winners on a recent visit to the Smithtown location.
One was a crisp-crusted grilled individual pizza Margherita ($7.95) with a vibrant mozzarella, tomato and basil topping. My one criticism of an otherwise delicious mozzarella-capped chicken meatball Parmesan bruschetta ($9.95) — actually, more of an open-face sandwich — was that the grilled garlic and olive-oil rubbed "country bread" was a bit too thick.
The menu, which also offers a pizza "bianco" ($9.95) and "rustica" ($10.95) as well as such bruschetta toppings as grilled sausage with broccoli rabe ($9.95) and shrimp marechiara ($13.95), is available only at the bar.
