The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
It may have taken more than a year, but Danny Wang has finally relaunched Azuma Sushi & Asian Fusion Bistro in Huntington. You'll now find the Japanese/pan-Asian restaurant in a little strip mall; it's situated diagonally across the street from the freestanding building that was once its home. Last year, after losing its lease, the dining spot was forced to close. Shortly thereafter, Akebono Fusion Sushi opened in its former digs.
Let the sushi wars begin. Although the new Azuma, which seats 26, is smaller than it once was, it’s also more contemporary. On the menu: Yellowtail jalapeño ($11), rainbow roll ($6), pork gyoza ($5), spicy calamari ($8), pad Thai ($12), chicken teriyaki ($13), shrimp tempura ($17), beef with Sichuan peppercorn sauce ($16), and sushi dinner ($18).
Wang, who is executive chef, said he is still waiting for a permit to put up the restaurant's sign, something he expects to do later this week.
Azuma Sushi & Asian Fusion Cuisine is at 239 Broadway, Greenlawn, 631-262-7200.
