There’s a new contender on the Long Island fish restaurant scene with the recent debut of Fish on Main (American Seafood Grille), formerly Ayhan’s Fish-Kebab on Main Street in Port Washington.
Fish Kebab used to be slightly more polished than Ayhan Hassan’s seven other casual Mediterranean-style restaurants, scattered throughout Nassau County. But the refurbished Fish on Main, located in a former bank, has a luxurious new décor and a menu of New American, regional American and Asian fusion dishes. There’s even a sushi bar.
Executive chef is John Brill, veteran of such Long Island restaurants as Jack Halyard’s Tavern in Oyster Bay and Parkside Cafe in Seaford. “There’s a little New Orleans, some Asian touches and some simply grilled fish items,’’ Brill said. “You can eat moderately here, in a facility that makes you feel like a million dollars.’’
On the sushi menu: chilly lobster salad roll ($19), tuna tataki appetizer ($16) and sushi and sashimi selections. On the main menu: a creamy Chatham cod and clam chowder ($8), ahi tuna flatbread ($16), Bayou swordfish topped with crawfish hollandaise ($28), miso-maple lacquered salmon ($28) and assorted meat dishes such as flat iron steak ($30) and French cut herb chicken ($22).
