Barrage is the work of Stephen Pominski Jr., who's a trackside tower operator for the Long Island Rail Road. He'd been a home brewer for 20 years. The name "barrage," he said, stems from the home bar that the Merrick resident had in his garage.

His beers are available at the brewery on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. and cost $13 to $18 for a half-gallon growler. The current brews include an American pale ale called Citralization; Fairytale Irish red ale; Blackspot, a black rye India Pale Ale; and McLaughlin's Folly, an oatmeal-raisin-vanilla stout.

Call ahead before visiting the brewery.

Barrage Brewing Co., 32 Allen Blvd., East Farmingdale, off Route 110; 516-986-8066.
