The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
New to the Bellport dining scene is Basil Restaurant & Spirits, with a repertoire owner Richard LoGrippo describes as Italian American. Chef Richard Doxsee previously cooked at Mamma Lombardis in Holbrook as well as Lombardis on the Bay in Patchogue, Lombardis on the Sound in Port Jefferson and Giorgios in Baiting Hollow.
On Doxsee's menu: fried calamari ($10), stuffed meatballs ($8), chicken saltimbocca ($19), shrimp oreganata ($18) and linguine with clams ($14).
In addition to its dining room, the restaurant has a lounge area with a bar that seats 16, along with outdoor seating for 12. There's also a live music scene on weekends.
