Beijing House keeps the fires of Sichuan and other regions high. It’s a modest-looking spot, but the flavors are anything but. Recommended: the crisp beef special, the beef hot pot, sautéed lamb with cumin, steamed whole fish with garlic sauce, minced pork with eggplant.

Mamma Lombardi’s is a bastion of husky, homey fare, with a southern Italian soul and Italian-American generosity. Recommended: pork braciola stuffed with pine nuts and raisins, pork chop pizzaiola, chicken and sausage campagnola, tripe Neapolitan-style, penne arrabbiata, linguine puttanesca, mozzarella in carrozza.
