The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

An "all-American BBQ feast" prepared by chefs who've cooked at The River Cafe will be held July 16 to raise funds for research on Lou Gehrig's disease and to assist chef Gerry Hayden of The North Fork Table & Inn in Southold, who has ALS.

The "A Love Shared" event will be held at The River Cafe in Brooklyn. Brad Steelman, Bill Telepan, Bryan Voltaggio, Joseph Realmuto of Nick & Toni's in East Hampton, and Claudia Fleming, Hayden's spouse and dessert chef at North Fork Table, are among the featured chefs.

Tickets are $250. The event will take place at The River Cafe's garden and terrace from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Hayden, a finalist in the James Beard Foundation awards for three straight years, was diagnosed with ALS in 2011. He's an owner and executive chef at North Fork Table, which received a four-star rating in Newsday. His career started at The River Cafe.
