Blackwells in Wading River has changed its menu and approach this summer.
And it has a new name, too: Blackwells at Great Rock Golf Club.
Chef Chris Gerdes is emphasizing more moderate prices and greater use of local and organic ingredients in the New American eatery, which earlier was known primarily for steak.
His new menu includes dishes such as housmade spaghetti with pesto, sauteed artichokes and shiitake mushrooms; roasted local striped bass with flageolet beans and ratatouille; and pan-roasted chicken with Lyonnaise potatoes. But he has kept the 24-oz. porterhouse and the Black Angus burger.
Local beers and ales also have been added, along with desserts ranging from chocolate creme brulee to "mudslide" cookies and a root-beer float.
Lunch appetizers are $6-$10; main dishes, $6-$15. There's a two-course, fixed-price menu Monday to Thursday, $24.95 before 5:30 p.m. and $29.95 after.
Blackwells earned a two-star rating in Newsday.
