Chennai Dosas entered the thriving Indian restaurant scene in Hicksville last month when it opened in the strip mall storefront that last housed Dosa Diner. As you see from the above photo, it's still awaiting a permanent sign.
Like its predecessor, the place serves a vegetarian South Indian menu with an emphasis on the stuffed lentil rice flour crepe known as the dosa. A once-over of the menu reveals such dishes as iddly, or steamed rice flour lentil cakes, with sambar, a vegetable stew ($4.45); spinach masala dosa ($8.95), a dosa filled with spinach and potatoes, as well as a mixed vegetable uthappam ($8.95), a thick frittata-like version of the dosa studded with onions, tomatoes, peas and carrots. Theres also a roster of vegetarian North Indian dishes, among them alu Gobi ($8.95), potatoes and chick peas in a lightly spiced sauce.
