The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

With new stores in Bellmore and Manhasset, Chocolate Works now operates four shops on Long Island. The first two are in Valley Stream and Commack.

Each Chocolate Works functions as a candy store, a chocolate manufacturer and a venue for children's parties. The chocolate-making machinery is right there on the selling floor so customers can see the fresh merchandise come right off the enrober conveyor belt. During parties, the kids get to operate the machines.

The stores are individually owned franchises, but the chain is the brainchild of Joe Whaley, a second-generation chocolate magnate whose father’s business, 5th Avenue Chocolatiere, operated stores in Manhattan. In 2009 Whaley opened a facility in Valley Stream to serve as a factory to supply the city stores, as well as a retail location and children’s party space. That store, originally called 5th Avenue Chocolatiere, has been renamed Chocolate Works.

Chocolate Works’ first proper franchise opened in September  2013 in Commack. Click here to read about it.
