When a Patchogue Facebook page serves as the matchmaker between a woman who’s been wanting to open a neighborhood restaurant and a man who’s been wanting to invest in one, you end up with South Country Tavern Kitchen and Bar. The restaurant opened in East Patchogue Friday, May 13.

When Lois Piro of Bellport said she had a business plan and needed an investor, Dave Hampson of Brookhaven heeded her call.

The two have teamed up to open a 60-seat casual restaurant serving lunch and dinner every day, breakfast on the weekends and a family-style option on Sundays, with a share plate of meatballs and pastas by the pound. “It’s a hug from the inside,” Piro says of her cooking, from pizza to pretzels to pork tenderloin and sausage and peppers. Appetizers will range from $5 to $6, entrees $21-$22 and specials $25 to $29.

The space has been spruced up from its past life as Peppercorn Cafe. Expect a gray room with red tablecloths and white napkins, with stone accents as the centerpiece of the dining room.
