The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

If you think it’s getting hot in Carle Place, perhaps it’s because of the 800-degree anthracite coal-burning ovens, firing up for the Monday opening of Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in the Country Glen Shopping Center.

The Florida-based chain, founded by New York native Anthony Bruno, has 20 Florida places as well as others in Pennsylvania, Delaware and one in White Plains.

Included on Anthony's short, specialized menu: Pizza, in 16- and 12-inch sizes, ranging from the traditional tomato, mozzarella, Romano and basil to the nontraditional Philly cheesesteak pie. Also a salad, some sandwiches and, under the heading “Italian soul food,” pork ribs with vinegar peppers as well as “eggplant Marino,” named for football star Dan Marino, a partner.

No pasta.
