A new Colombian restaurant has opened in Westbury, in the vacant Old Country Road spot that once was La Verne.

The dining room at Con Sabor a Colombia is spacious, colorful and the kitchen puts out a full panoply of Colombian dishes. Among appetizers (most under $5) there are arepas (corn cakes), empanadas, yucca frita (fried cassava) and guacamole served with plantain chips.

Mains (most between $15 and $10) include rotisserie chickens, skirt steak, paella, fried red snapper, rice with shrimp, grilled pork tenderloin and, of course, bandeja tipica, the national dish of Colombia. The platter features grilled steak, fried pork rind, fried plantains, avocado, white rice, red beans, an arepa (corn cake) and, the icing on the cake, a fried egg.
