The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

Dao is the new name for the Jericho Turnpike restaurant previously dubbed Tao.

There are a couple stories about the change. One is that they had to switch the name because Tao is taken by another restaurant. Another: New management.

Either way, the food is pretty much the same, with a menu of Japanese, Chinese and Thai dishes. The kitchen prepares good lo mein with shrimp and pork; cold noodles with sesame sauce; and a respectable sushi roll, with spicy tuna and avocado.

The combo of General Tso's chicken and shrimp, however, isn't even a major event: bland and bland. And the sauce with the whole, deep-fried red snapper is far more sweet than spicy.

But a third story is that the kitchen will be overhauled in July.

The question is whether they'll still be using plates with the logo from Empire Szechuan Gourmet, which preceded Tao.

Stay tuned.
