The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
Food Network’s newest competition show, "Cutthroat Kitchen," premiered Aug. 11. The show, hosted by Alton Brown, apes “Chopped” as four chefs are whittled down to one winner through three successive challenges. The twist is that the chefs are urged to sabotage one another’s dishes. At the beginning of the show they are each given $25,000 in cash. They then “bid” on the opportunity to deny their competitors such necessities as cooking tools, or to saddle them with such dish destroyers as precooked turkey breast. The winning chef gets to keep whatever cash he or she hasn’t spent.
The third episode, which airs Sunday at 10 p.m., features Long Island’s own DJ Chef Marc Weiss. Weiss, a trained restaurant chef, has established himself as a popular entertainer at food festivals and catered events where he simultaneously spins records while cooking up a storm.
