The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

Harbor Bistro is having a big, sunny summer on Three Mile Harbor Road. When it closes for the season, expect Harbor Grill to open nearby.

Co-owner and executive chef Damien O'Donnell plans a casual American eatery at the former location of Fiddler's Cove pub at 367 Three Mile Harbor Rd. There's a sign on the building announcing the newcomer, which O'Donnell said is slated to debut in mid-October.

The emphasis will be on informal style, complete with root beer on tap, ice cream floats, assorted coffees. Diners can look forward to a burger bar, steak sandwiches, flounder po'boy, grilled bratwurst, "all American" grilled cheese, grilled fish, pastas, salads, jambalaya and meat loaf. Openers: corn fritters, "punch out" chicken wings, Mongolian barbecue beef sliders and beer-battered popcorn shrimp. Breakfast and lunch are expected on weekends. Moderate prices.

The idea is to evoke "old East Hampton," free of the seasonal glitz, and aimed at year-rounders, O'Donnell said.  "A local, family restaurant."

Meantime: Harbor Bistro, 313 Three Mile Harbor Rd., East Hampton; 631-324-7300.
