advertisement | advertise on newsday

Who actually catches the local catch? We motor the Long Island Sound with Mattituck-based fisherman Artie Kretschmer to pull up porgy, sea bass and fluke. As the sun rises, we follow the catch back to shore, where it is delivered to Southold Fish Market and later served at the Shelter Island restaurant 18 Bay. Also in this episode: Exotic Indian-Chinese food at Nanking inside the Hilton Long Island in Melville and the pitmasters at Old Fields Barbecue give a lesson in smoking.
