The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

An American restaurant offering prime beef is slated to open this spring at the former site of the Viking Culinary Arts Center in Garden City.

The restaurant, to be called Revel, is slated to start cooking in April, said Thomas McCambridge, vice president for commercial leasing at the Albanese Organization, which recently received the go-ahead to proceed with the project.

Restaurateur James Doukas, whose Long Island experience includes the former Caffe Angelica in Garden City Park, is developing the new eatery.

Revel will take up more than half of the property at 835 Franklin Ave., where Viking had operated a showroom and cooking school. It closed in 2011.

The site of  the Viking Culinary Arts Center, now closed, will house a restaurant.
