Feed Me

The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

If you need one more reason to enjoy downtown Port Jefferson, it's Brewology, Part Two.

The offspring of the original Brewology in Speonk is pouring outstanding beers to go with savory fare.

This branch of Brewology is at the address that housed a carriage shop and the Elk Hotel in the 19th century, plus several restaurants in the 20th and 21st. Brewology is the sharpest resident in recent years, with very good service, evocative gastropub style, and Chris Zullo's cooking.

Try the deviled local duck eggs, sparked with candied bacon and orange zest. Take a bite of the ground-bison burger, a flavor-packed excess packed with both Cheddar and blue cheese, slathered with aioli, and sent out with enough fries to feed two. Dig into the rich macaroni and cheese. Finish with a root-beer float, made with excellent, nonalcoholic Craft Root Beer.

From the current list of brews on tap, pick a flight of four. The standout choices range from dark, high-octane Belgians to summery grapefruit IPA and wheat beers.

Brewology in Speonk is in a shopping center at 295 Montauk Hwy., 631-801-6221.
