The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
Greenport Harbor Brewery is kicking off summer with what it hopes will be an annual event: the Beer, BBQ and Blues Festival to be held Saturday and Sunday on the grounds of the brewery's spacious new Peconic facility.
On Saturday, 21 teams will compete in a people's choice ribs competition. Festivalgoers can sample their fill of pork ribs ($10 for five tastes) and then vote for their favorite. To round out the food options on Saturday, three food trucks will be on hand: Nice Buns (fancy sliders and fries), Eat Me Drink Me (gourmet burgers) and Island Empanada (empanadas).
Sunday, the teams vie for a chance to be named New York State barbecue champion. They will be judged in the four classic categories -- chicken, ribs, pulled pork and brisket -- by a panel of experts. On Sunday, most of the teams will also be selling barbecue to festival attendees.
So much for the barbecue. Throughout the weekend, Greenport Harbor beer will flow and live musical acts will include Rob Europe, Joe Allegue, Kirsten Thien, Chuck Columbo and the Hiro Suzuki Blues Band.
The Greenport Harbor Beer, BBQ, and Blues Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Greenport Harbor Brewery, 42155 Rte. 25, Peconic
