The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
On Feb. 27, Love Lane Kitchen will host a fundraiser for Programa Sueños, a nonprofit that supports the education program in the village of San Antonio el Angel, Guatemala.
If you’re wondering about the connection between Love Lane and San Antonio el Angel, it’s the restaurant’s assistant manager, Jazmin Carrillo, a native of the village. On a trip to her hometown in 2012, she was dismayed to find her old school overcrowded and in severe disrepair. Back on the North Fork, she started a small scholarship program that blossomed into a full 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. (Click here to read Newsday's story.) Carrillo will be on hand to answer questions about the work her charity is doing.
The benefit is a joint project of Love Lane Kitchen and Gerry Hayden, executive chef and partner at North Fork Table in Southold. North Fork Table will be providing passed hors d’oeuvres such as tuna tartar, smoked salmon on blini with horseradish, potato-truffle-crusted scallop, and fluke seviche. Love Lane Kitchen will provide mini lobster rolls, and lamb chops. East Marion’s Grace & Grit will provide bacon-wrapped dates, and coffee-rubbed steak. Local beer from Greenport Harbor and wines from Roanoke, Bedell, and McCall will also be served.
A raffle and auction will also be conducted and prizes include dinner at The North Fork Table & Inn and a gift certificate from First & South in Greenport.
Festivities begin at 6 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Love Lane Kitchen, 240 Love Lane, Mattituck, 631-298-8989, lovelanekitchen.com. The price is $100 per ticket, which must be purchased in advance at programasuenos.com/Fundraiser.
