One of Long Island's top Turkish-Mediterranean restaurants just opened a new branch. Istanbul Cafe II, the offshoot of Istanbul Cafe in Centereach, is serving meze, kebabs and other Turkish and Mediterranean specialties in the St. James space that last housed FeelGoods Cafe.
Chef owner Sinan Yagci shuttles between both his restaurants. Although the new place lacks a brick oven for such specialties as pide (the Turkish version of pizza) and lahmacun (a thin, crisp, meat-topped disc), freshly baked bread is being brought over from the Centereach locale. Everything else, including gyro and desserts, is made in house.
On the menu in St. James: shepherd salad ($6.75), hummus ($4.95), Adana kebab ($12.95), chicken shish kebab ($12.95), vegetable moussaka ($13.95) and kazandibi, an eggless Turkish flan ($4).
