DeBello's Restaurant & Bar is the new name for the Hicksville pizzeria that opened in early 2014.
According to general manager Franco Camgoz, the new incarnation is less focused on pizza: A longer menu features such items as rice balls ($10 for five), a fried sampler platter ($14 for a selection of rice balls, potato croquettes, mozzarella sticks, fried pickles and fried zucchini), couscous salad with roasted vegetables ($14), lemon-pepper salmon ($18) and plenty of pastas in the $14-$17 range. On Friday nights, a DJ spins records from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Visually, the restaurant is still dominated by three tiled wood-burning pizza ovens that produce dozens of Neapolitan-style pies and wood-fired panini ($12-$16).
The cavernous space, located next to Planet Fitness in a shopping center on South Broadway, originally opened as Pizza Fabbrica then morphed into Pizza Fab! a few months later. Paul Presta, one of the original three owners, is still on board. Camgoz is an industry veteran who has worked at Ayhan's Shish Kebab (various locations on Long Island) and Kyma in Roslyn.
