The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
Javiers Cafe is turning out pancakes, omelets, sandwiches and salads in the Smithtown digs that last hosted Luso (which moved to larger quarters nearby). Chef-owner Edgar Javier Viera cooked for 16 years at Maureen & Daughters' Kitchen, also in Smithtown. His new place, like Maureens, serves only breakfast and lunch.
On the menu: banana blueberry pancakes ($8.25), stuffed peach pecan French toast ($7.50), a Polish sausage, potato, scallion and smoked mozzarella omelet ($9.25), a turkey, tomato, bacon, swiss and remoulade sandwich on grilled rye ($10.25), a cheeseburger with fries ($10.25) and a chef salad ($13.75).
The place offers patio dining out back.
Javiers Cafe is at 101 E. Main St., Smithtown, 631-406-7712.
