It’s been a little over a month since Jessie’s Fireshack & Pizzeria took over the former New Hyde Park digs of Angelina’s Fireshack & Pizzeria. New owners, new menu.
So why hang on to part of the old name? Chef Kai Chu said his brother, owner Harry Chu, liked the appellation and put in the name of his daughter to give it a new identity. The brothers also wanted to keep the same general kind of food. “A lot of old customers still frequent the place,” said Chu, whose culinary experience ranges from cooking at Da Vinci’s in Island Park to running some corporate restaurants for Sbarro. The menu at Jessie’s Fireshack, he said, is all about comfort food.
Neapolitan pizza, plain and fancy, is sold by the slice ($1.99 to $3.50) and the pie ($9.95 to $19.95). “Chicago” style deep dish pizza only comes by the pie ($10.25 individual 8-inch to $18.95 large 14-inch) in such varieties as the mixed meat “carnivore” and the “French Revolution” with lemon butter-sauteed chicken and two kinds of cheese. Also on the extensive menu: mac and cheese ($5.95) a Cuban sandwich ($7.95) an “early bird” burger topped with a fried egg, cheese, bacon and tomato ($9.95), and BBQ ribs ($10.95).
The place offers table service and is awaiting its beer and wine license.
